The European term incense comes from the Latin, meaning "set on fire" (in and candere). In European, Frankincense (one form) is also known as olibanum.
The Arabian term for Frankinsense, lubban, seems to come from the word for milk. The word may also be from "oil of Lebanon," but the origin is uncertain.
The East Asian term "milk-fragrance" 乳香 may be a calque from the Arabic.
